Ch 1

The all knowing one PART 1

The unfortunate day arrived on the break of dawn. Nobody could have guessed what was to happen. Except.. perhaps one.

“Good morning Mr. Postune! I’ll like 3 breakfast combos of toasted bread and your special eggs for my mom, dad, and me” Uka calls out as the previous lady with the pretty pink flowered hat finishes ordering. Uka especially noticed the design of how the flowers were weaved into the hat and it entranced her. Uka watched the lady some more and saw that she was a tall brunette, on the conservative side with a plain long flowing yellow dress with a dark yellow petticoat to cover her shoulders.

“Thank you and have a good day Perrie” the lady answer politely while grabbing her carryout with her coffee and walk briskly out the jingly door. I wonder what she does for a living Uka wonders as she turns her curious eyes to Mr. Perrie Postune, the renowned chef in making the best breakfast at 6 am in the morning. She watches him flip the eggs, toast the bread, adds butter on the golden parts, and put the egg on top all three breads before adding another buttered golden bread on top of each egg.

“Here you go Uka! Watch out they are still hot” Perrie Postune cautions while smiling, bending over to hand the 10 year old the rather large carryout.

“Yessir! Have a good day!” Uka puts $6 on the counter before reaching out to grab the bag, “I hope you have another successful day like always!”

Mr. Postune chuckles and salutes the young girl, “Thank you young lady, tell your parents to come over for tea anytime as long as they bring me their latest wood carving”

Uka smiles at the door, “Of course Mr. Postune!”

The young girl rushes out the door with the hot bag full of deliciousness, eager to get home and bring breakfast for her mom and dad.

“Mom! Dad! I brought our food. Mr. Postune says to come and visit for tea and to bring your latest work daddy!” Uka bubbles out as she opens the door to her modest home at the edge of the village, closest to the mountains where dragon training could be heard clearly throughout the day, rosy cheeked and out of breath.

“Sweetie, did you run all the way again?” Her mom drying a wet, clean dish calls from the kitchen.

Embarrassed Uka giggles, “Sorry I’m just so hungry!”

“C’mon than, what are you still standing there for? The table is already set, let’s eat!” Her dad calls from the kitchen counter.

    “Coming!”

“So was Postune’s place busy this morning?” Her dad asks while putting his hand in the bag to grab a breakfast sandwich. “Ouch it’s hot!!” He exclaims dropping it on the clean table in surprise.

“Robert, how many times have I told you to be careful and not drop food all over the place” Uka’s mom says sternly coming over to wipe the greasy spot with her apron.

“There was a tall lady with a very pretty pink flowered hat!” Uka proclaims before biting down on her savory breakfast.

“Ohhh the new move-in? I heard she came from modern magic village. Apparently the company she works for are interested in mythology and dragons and genetically developed a prototype baby dragon to be “trained” here” Uka’s mom states matter of factly, carefully removing a warm sandwich and eating it delicately on her plate. “They received permission from our chief to bring their prototype dragon to interact with our baby dragons. Otherwise they wouldn’t have gotten through the barrier”.

“Technology these days, creating things unnatural and potentially unbalancing the world. Though dragons are rare and are only found in isolated villages like ours, it doesn’t mean they can go ahead and make these things!” Uka’s dad states boldly.

“Now honey, calm down. There are regulations like these dragons will only be used as “pet” status only and transportation. Their village wants to reduce oil and gas use you know. I think that it’s a clever idea.”

Uka’s parents continues to debate on this topic of dragon creations in far away villages. Uka, bored and done with her sandwich, hops down from her chair and starts clearing the table.

“I still think dragons should stay as they are supposed to be, wild and free spirits full of magic that can not be copied. What happens if the company turns evil and starts developing an army of these dangerous creatures! People can get hurt and -”

“Robert. Stop. You are freaking out over nothing. The government that regulates the company will sure to stop productions if it ever comes to that. Plus they have machine guns, tanks, bombs, and so many other war materials since they are modernized. Dragons must be insignificant compared to all those things as they don’t need dragons to depend on like we do.”

“I’m telling you Norlette, one day these ideas will turn bad-”

Quietly Uka closes the door behind her and sighs a relief. They can debate for hours over anything once they get heated up Uka shakes her head knowingly. Her parents had the most opposite minds in the world. It was a wonder those 2 fell in love.

I wonder if Mari is up now. Uka checks the sun. It is about 7:30 am. She should be up and waiting for me. I can’t be late again.

Uka walks a bit on the fast-paced side towards the morning sun, her back facing away from the tall proud mountains. Her dragon-master-to-be friend lives on the opposite side of village and it was probably a 2 hour walk. However they had a special meeting place in the middle of town where the local markets opens every day at promptly 8 am.

Marine’s mother sold fresh fruits in one of the stalls as they had fruit trees in their backyard, a perfect environment for her partner dragon Mateyhts.

Though Uka never complained about her Ehlar mage ability she sometimes wished she either had a more powerful and useful magic like Tacteksr or was a dragon master like her best friend.

Thinking about her healing abilities she extend both her hands out and stare at them. Suddenly finding the urge to practice Uka takes a deep breath to slow down her pulse. She stops walking and concentrates all her energy into a single point in the middle of her two hands which were extended out facing away from her.

A small, marble sized neon green light in a form of tiny butterflies and sparkles appears. She opens her eyes unsatisfactorily. Not big enough.

Making her mind blank just like her tutor taught her she starts over and imagine healing the broken skin in front of her with her green energy. Slowly she can feel her magic building and changing into something that could be manipulated. Keeping her eyes closed she imagined it growing bigger and bigger and bigger...

“Woah! Such a pretty green butterfly”

Uka opens her eyes in surprise and is startled to find a large sparkly green butterfly the size of her body in front of her hands flapping it’s wings. She had succeeded in starting the healing procedure like her tutor had taught her. It quickly disappears as she loses concentration and the bright light associated with magic disappears. Feeling fatigued suddenly Uka sways a bit blinking.

I did it. It finally looks like Mrs. Lulu’s big red butterfly she uses when demonstrating how to heal. Uka thought.

“Hey, you okay there?” The same person calls out.

“Yeah, I’m fine thanks”, Uka sits down to stop the swaying and looks up to see the Pretty Hat Lady from this morning. “Oh!” Uka recognizes her instantly, “You’re that person!”

Puzzled and worried the lady studies Uka sitting on the ground and notes her innocent clear blue eyes, cute but chubby face which hasn’t lost any of it’s baby fat, and very shiny long black hair. “I’m who?”

“That lady from this morning! I saw you! You ordered a carryout at Mr. Postune’s breakfast place!”

“Oh!” The lady blinks in surprise. She did not think this girl would be up so early ordering breakfast like she did, “So you did see me.”

Uka smiles very brightly and comments, “I really like your hat”

The lady blushes shyly, “Oh thanks. My fiancee from overseas gave it to me. It has just the right amount of magic where it can turn into a flowered hairband.” The lady demonstrates, “You see?”

“Wooow!! That’s so cool! How did you get magic like that?” Uka asks excitedly while examining the hat-turned-hairband.

The lady winks, “From where I come from this is nothing, we have different magic than the people here. The magic we have over there is for productions and practical use rather than for battling and healing like you guys have it here.”

In amazement Uka tried to understand. “And are there lots of these pretty hats that turn into hairbands over there?”

    “Yes there are”

Uka fingered the big flower, “And this is my favorite flower too! Dandelions!”

“Is that so? Dandelions are my favorite flowers too!” The lady exclaims smiling at the cute, excited girl. Suddenly as if remembering something important, she checks her watch and her eyes grow wide, “Oh shoot I was supposed to be meeting someone. I have to go, little girl, what is your name?”

“Ukasha! Most people call me Uka so you can too!” The girl smiles happily getting up. “What is yours miss?”

“My name is Hailey. You can call me just Hailey because I feel like we have a special bond through dandelions.”

“Nice meeting you Hailey”, Uka replies happily still holding on to the flower hairband.

Hailey glances down at how tightly Uka was clutching the hairband. “Why don’t you hold on to that for me today and when we meet at Postune’s Breakfast tomorrow morning you can give it back to me?”

    Uka’s eyes grow wide. “Really?”

“Yes”, Hailey smiles assuringly. “Okay I have to go now. Bye bye! See you tomorrow Uka.”

Uka waves with the hairband in her hand, “Bye Hailey!”

Little did they both know this was their first but last encounter.

Realizing that Uka has been taking quite some time in one place she puts on the flowered hairband and hurries to the meeting place where she always met Marine on the weekends.

“Uka… YOU. ARE. LATE. AGAIN.” her friend shouts from inside the fresh fruits stall clearly aggravated with Uka’s tardiness. Uka puts her hands on her knees to catch her breath. “S-sorry. G-got dist-tracted-d.”

“Don’t you always get distracted. 2 out of 3 times you’re late in meeting me so we never get to play because I have to help my mom work from 8:30 am to 3pm.”

“Sorry sorry”, Uka apologizes sheepishly while noticing that there were quite a few people in the markets today. “Need any help with those fruits?”

“Yes that would be great. My mom went back home today so I need all the help I can get”, Marine replies forgetting about Uka’s regular tardiness and points to a crate of apples inside their stall. “Sort those out and put the ripe ones in the very front bottom left on our stands. We need to sell those off now before it turns bad.”

“Yes ma’am” Uka replies staggering under the weight of the heavy crate as she brings it out to sort.

At 3 pm they took a break for some late lunch. They ate the fruits while selling whenever they were hungry as they couldn’t sit down and properly eat with so many potential customers walking around. But now that it was less bustling as it had been earlier they decided to eat what Marine’s mom prepared. Which was, the usual fruit salad with beans and thinly sliced pork meat.

“I need to go back soon to help my dad with his carvings”, Uka says, gobbling the fruit salad as she was starving.

Marine sighs, “See we never get to play.”

“I’m sorry. I’ll run faster next time.”

“NO IT’S NOT ABOUT HOW FAST YOU RUN. STOP GETTING DISTRACTED WHEN YOU COME HERE AND YOU WON’T EVEN NEED TO RUN. Jeez you look at the same things everyday when you walk the same route, I don’t get how you always somehow manage to get distracted”

Flinching at Marine’s loud voice, Uka shakes her head in disagreement and replies, “Though it’s the same route every day there are new things happening everyday. And with new things comes new opportunities. Like today I met a new friend named Hailey who let me borrow her hairband!”

“Ah, I was wondering where you got that cute hairband from.”

Uka whispers suggestively, “It can turn into a hat too”

Marine jumps up, “No way! Let me see that!”

Uka hands her the hairband and cautions her to be careful. “I don’t know how Hailey did it but maybe I can ask her tomorrow.”

“Yeah and when you do you tell me too. But that’s really cool! My mom was talking about how Ms. Hailey Larkford came from a modern magic society where they use modernized magic.”

“Did you also hear that she had a prototype dragon that was genetically made?! My dad was fussing over that.” Uka replies giggling.

“No I actually didn’t know that. A prototype dragon? Is that even possible.”

“I don’t know honestly. I’m guessing it is now, that’s the reason Hailey came to our village. To train it here with our dragons.”

“To train? Train it to do what? All our dragons here are trained for fighting and being compatible with defending humans instead of running whenever there’s danger like all wild animals do.”

“Well, I dont know.” Uka replies after a moment of thought. “But anyways, I got to get back. Same time tomorrow?”

“Aww I wanted to play today. I only see you twice a week.” Marine pouts.

Uka thought for a second. “I know! You and your mom can come over for dinner! I know my parents wouldn’t mind.”

Marine brightens up immediately. “Sure! Okay I’ll ask my mom! See you..?”

    “5:30pm!”

“Okay, see you then Uka” Marine waves with a huge grin.

When Uka finally got back it was 4pm.

“Daddy! I invited Mari and Mrs. Juki to dinner with us tonight. You don’t mind right?”

“Of course not Uka-poka.” Her dad replies from his workshop, wiping sweat from his brow. On the table in front of him was a beautiful dragon wood carving with it’s wings spread wide like it was about to take flight. It’s mouth was opened widely with its gigantic teeth showing.

    “Daddy, who’s that for?”

“Well, Mr. Postune commissioned this for Ms. Larkford. I swear he needs to drop his playboy ways. He’s not as young as he was.” He mutters the rest under his breath.

“Why is he giving her a dragon wood carving? Does he want to marry her daddy? But she already has a fiancee!”

Her dad puts down his tool and unties his work apron, “Who told you Ms. Larkford has a fiancee sweetie?”

“Hailey told me! I saw her today and she complimented on my magic use!”, replies Uka excitedly hopping up and down.

“Oh? Are you guys close friends already to be calling her by her first name?”

“She said it was okay! And I know she has a fiancee because this hairband-” Uka points to the flowered hairband on top of her head, “was given to her by him!”

    “What hairband?”

Touching the top of her head Uka realizes something.

“Oh no! I forgot to get the hairband back from Mari!”

Her dad chuckles, “Well it’s a good thing Marine’s coming over for dinner. C’mon wanna help me finish this dragon for the doomed Mr. Postune?”

“Okay”, Uka replies as she hops on top of her small stool to help her dad.

    DING DONG

“Oh it’s Mari!!” Cries Uka as she rushes out the workshop and gets the door. She passes her mother in the kitchen who was making star shaped sweets and Uka swipes 2.

    “Uka.. Dinner first!”

“It’s for Mari and Mateyhts!” Calls out Uka as she unlocks the door.

    “Yo”

“Mari! Here! And this is for Mateyhts.”

“Oooo are these my favorite lemon cookies?”

“You bet! So is your mom arriving later as always?”

“Yep! She’ll be bringing a basket of fruits for you mom as always as well.”

“Thanks! It’s only 5pm so we have 30 minuetes to play!”

“Yay! Matey, you can go to the dragon training center to see your older friends if you want okay? Come back in 30 minuetes for dinner.”

“Awo Awoo!” Mateyhts replies happily before flapping it’s purple wings and fly in the direction of the mountains nearby.

Uka steps aside the door for Marine to enter.

Suddenly the floor started to shake.

“A tiny earthquake?” Wonders Marine out loud.

Uka pauses in confusion. “What earthquake?”

“I must of imagined it” Marine says brushing it off. Thats weird, I really felt the floor shake for a second. Thought Marine.

Closing the door behind her, Marine peers over her shoulder and feels a sense of foreboding come over her.

“Marine! What’s taking ya so long?”
